Want to Get Rich Without Trying? Understand the 3 Key Principles of "Lazy Investing" to Grow Your Assets Automatically

懶得變有錢 (Lazy to be Rich) makes me truly feel that Chinese is a profound language. Just one word, “得 (de),” can completely change the meaning of a sentence. Let’s explore the interesting relationship between life, financial management, and choices through the phrase “懶得變有錢 (Lazy to be Rich).”

“懶得.變有錢 (Lazy. To be Rich)”

If we put “懶得 (lazy)” at the beginning, it’s as if there’s no motivation at all to become rich. No motivation to earn money, no motivation to save money, no motivation to work hard on anything that helps in becoming rich.

This is probably how a “salted fish” type would interpret it, losing all motivation for everything in life. Feeling that living is also a waste.

Although I haven’t done the statistics, from watching the news every day, it seems like most people are like this because they don’t know what money can do besides buying things. They feel helpless in enriching their abilities, powerless in learning new things, and only spending money to gain happiness or pleasure can make them feel more comfortable. If you can live well whether you have money or not, that’s also a choice.

“懶得變.有錢 (Lazy to Become. Rich)”

Because the word “得 (de)” in the above phrase seems to be able to be interpreted as “lazy to the point of becoming rich.” Of course, this is a misinterpretation or a different perspective, but if it really is “lazy to the point of becoming rich,” then it’s very similar to what I’ve been saying all along: lazy investing, which is a conscious act of laziness. You know why you want to be lazy, why you can be lazy, and you also know how to be lazy. As long as it’s not the kind of laziness where you don’t move physically or mentally, then it’s good laziness. (What the heck am I talking about?). Haha!! In short, I just think Chinese is profound and very interesting.

“懶.得變有錢 (Lazy. Must Become Rich)”

The last interpretation is my favorite. I want to pronounce this “得 (de)” as “ㄉㄟˇ (dě),” as if I want to live a lazy life, like a bum and a couch potato. So, if I want to live this kind of life, then I must make my income happy and joyful. And I also need to live sufficiently (sufficient doesn’t necessarily mean being rich, but being rich is indeed a kind of sufficiency in the eyes of society).

Want to Be Lazy? Put in the Effort First. Want to Be Lazy? Be Efficient.

Speaking of a post I saw this morning, it was about a blogger who recently moved and hired IKEA to help with the renovation, etc. When they chatted with the staff, they talked about salaries and financial management. They mentioned that the job content and salary at IKEA seem to be more than NT$50,000 (USD $1,562) a month. Unexpectedly, in the process of chatting, these IKEA masters mentioned that they wouldn’t do jobs with salaries lower than NT$50,000 (USD $1,562). They would rather do manual labor than do low-paying jobs. This made me think that the most important thing in earning and managing money is the initial resources. Through the compounding effect of time, you can create more money. So, people who choose low-paying jobs from the beginning really have a hard time creating higher incomes in the future, while people who choose higher-paying jobs from the beginning, although it’s manual labor, the salary they earn is very impressive and very satisfying. I really, really agree with this. (Just like I’ve never earned less than the average monthly salary of NT$50,000 (USD $1,562)).

Compounding Life

So, speaking of earning money, you really have to work hard to earn money from the beginning and desperately put the money into more assets instead of spending it. Then, amplify the assets through the compounding effect of time. This is probably the process that the average office worker can do! Unless you are determined to start a business and create another source of income. Otherwise, I actually think my favorite is the third interpretation of 懶得變有錢 (Lazy to be Rich): “懶.得變有錢 (Lazy. Must Become Rich).” This interpretation best represents the state of life I want.
