Is being “paycheck-to-paycheck” (月光族, spending your entire monthly salary with nothing left over) really such a bad thing? If you could live as a carefree, worry-free paycheck-to-paycheck spender, wouldn’t that actually be pretty nice?

I recently watched a video by Hao Ge (郝哥, a well-known Taiwanese YouTube creator) that really inspired me. This episode, I want to talk with you about the joy of “slow wealth” — and a formula for financial freedom that might completely flip your worldview.

In this episode, you’ll hear:

  • Redefining “paycheck-to-paycheck”: Why being a carefree, worry-free paycheck-to-paycheck spender is actually your ultimate financial goal.
  • The true formula for financial freedom: Forget your savings target! True freedom is actually “ability minus desire.” When your ability exceeds your desire, you’re free.
  • Chasing “slow wealth,” not “quick money”: “Slow” isn’t about speed — it’s a mindset. Finding something you love and can keep doing consistently is more important than chasing market ups and downs every day.
  • Can you read your own financial statements?: Companies have three financial statements — and so do you as an individual. Understanding your cash flow, income statement, and balance sheet is how you make the most rational decisions.
  • “Retirement” is available any time: Retirement isn’t an age — it’s a state of inner fulfillment. When you’re living each day well, you’re already enjoying retirement.

After listening to this episode, I hope you stop feeling anxious about your savings balance. Let’s adjust our mindset together — build up our abilities, manage our desires, and become truly free people.
