《Commercial Books 10x Efficiency》 Review: 4 Principles to Help You Read 50 More Books a Year

《Commercial Books 10x Efficiency》 Review: 4 Principles to Help You Read 50 More Books a Year

Lazy Summary

Be Skeptical When Reading

To all my lazy fans who want to be lazy but can’t, or can’t be lazy but really want to be, remember to be skeptical when reading (as the book itself says). So after reading this book, I’m skeptical whether I actually read anything.

But that’s okay, I’ll share what I’ve read with you “as much as possible” so you can understand.

What is a Commercial Book? Why Speed Read?

Commercial books refer to books on business, management, economics, and related topics. Reading commercial books can help us learn business knowledge, management skills, and economic trends to improve our competitiveness in the workplace.

The benefit of speed reading commercial books is that you can quickly acquire key concepts, viewpoints, and practical examples, saving time and increasing learning efficiency. By mastering the core content of the books, we can quickly apply what we learn to real work or life situations and benefit from optimizing our career development.

Besides, have you noticed that many commercial books may be translated from foreign versions, and the examples, stories, or characters in them don’t resonate at all? That’s right, this is one of the pitfalls of misreading commercial books.

Examples are not bad, but spending too much time understanding the examples is not as good as mastering the skills of reading commercial books.

When reading commercial books, try to recall cases you may have encountered yourself, it’s much better than trying to understand the cases in the book.

Reading Commercial Books Requires Explanation, Thinking, and Application

I used to always say “read, read, read,” but later I realized that wasn’t right, because no matter how much you read, it just feels like reading. So I changed my vocabulary to “reading.”

The key to reading is to have thinking (reverse thinking, critical thinking). It’s like after reading this whole book, I can only be glad that I borrowed it from the library instead of buying it myself. The reason is not that the book is bad, but that I might only need to read this type of commercial book or tool book again after a long time, so I can just borrow it again then.

Four Principles of Tenfold Reading: Learning Them Can Speed Things Up, But Not Tenfold

  • The amount of learning is more important than the amount of reading.
    • Learning viewpoints and principles from each book is the most important thing when reading each book.
  • Stored information is more important than flowing information.
    • Stored information can be used to build viewpoints and shape principles so that the book is not easily forgotten. It is better to be good at compiling information that you can use through notes and records. It would be even better if you can share and teach it to others.
  • Read viewpoints, find principles. What are “viewpoints” and what are “principles”?
    • The focus of reading is to learn viewpoints and find principles. A “viewpoint” refers to the author’s views, thoughts, or opinions on a particular topic. A “principle” refers to the practical methods, principles, or guidelines provided in the book. By reading, we can learn different viewpoints and find the principles that suit us, and then apply them to our actual life or work.
    • The book mentions reading it twice. I think it depends on personal habits. I flip through books as fast as I roll my eyes, but I read them back and forth several times, and then find the keywords or content that I think are useful in this kind of speed reading and read them in detail.
  • Conduct “fixed-topic reading” in the same field.
    • I have actually seen the same case being used in different books. This case is that children are afraid when they need to have an MRI, so the MRI machine is packaged as a theme park adventure.
    • Because I focused on reading marketing books for a while, I think this kind of wide-ranging but fixed-topic approach is quite suitable for commercial books, because it is not like reading classified novels, where the story content is always different.

Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve

Time After (Minutes/Hours/Days)Memory Retention (%)
1 Minute100%
20 Minutes58%
1 Hour44%
9 Hours36%
1 Day33%
2 Days28%
6 Days25%
31 Days21%

These numbers are just research standards. The actual memory retention rate varies from person to person and is affected by various factors (such as learning quality, personal health, etc.).

This means that it is very easy to recall what I read in one minute, but as time goes by, until 31 days, if I want to remember what I read 31 days ago, the pain index is as high as 79%. It means that I have forgotten about 80%.

But by reading commercial books on the same topic for a month in a row, I can greatly increase the memory index, because I am constantly reviewing within the same topic.

Viewpoints, Principles, and Conclusions

Read Viewpoints

A viewpoint refers to the author’s views, thoughts, or opinions on a particular topic in the book. When reading books, we can learn various viewpoints from them and find principles or guidelines that suit us. When reading commercial books, it is especially important to understand the viewpoints in the book, because these viewpoints can help us expand our thinking, learn new knowledge, and apply it to our work or life.

So, how do we read the viewpoints in the book? There are several ways to help us better understand and apply viewpoints:

  1. Think Actively: When reading books, maintain a skeptical and critical attitude, and think about whether the author’s viewpoint is reasonable and whether it is applicable to different situations. This can help us understand the viewpoint more deeply and form our own independent opinions.
  2. Think from Multiple Perspectives: Not only should we understand the viewpoint of the author in the book, but we should also try to look at the same problem from different angles. This can help us expand our thinking, open up new horizons, and find more comprehensive solutions.
  3. Apply to Real-World Scenarios: Reading books is not just about increasing knowledge, but more importantly, being able to apply what you learn to real-world scenarios. When reading books, we can think about how to apply the viewpoints in the book to our work, study, or life, and conduct practical operations and practice.

In short, reading viewpoints in books is an important part of our learning and growth. Through active thinking, thinking from multiple perspectives, and practical application, we can better understand and apply these viewpoints and benefit in our careers and lives.

Find Principles (Establish Problem-Solving Methods Based on Viewpoints)

Finding principles refers to when reading commercial books, we should look for the practical methods, principles, or guidelines provided in the book. By finding principles, we can learn how to apply the viewpoints in the book to real-world scenarios.

When finding principles, consider the following:

  • Focus on Practical Methods: The book may provide some specific methods or steps that can help us solve problems or achieve goals in a specific field. Pay attention to these practical methods and think about how to apply them to your own situation.
  • Understand Principles and Guidelines: The book may introduce some principles or guidelines that can help us make more informed decisions in our work or life. Understand these principles and guidelines and apply them to real-world scenarios.
  • Look for Operability: When finding principles, look for suggestions or methods that are operable. These suggestions should be able to be practically applied and produce meaningful results.

In short, by finding principles, we can obtain practical methods, principles, and guidelines from commercial books and apply them to our own work or life to improve personal abilities and achieve goals.

懶得變有錢 (Lazy to be Rich)’s Conclusion

Reading this book in my 30s feels like reading a textbook. This book is quite boring to read, and some of the content is incomprehensible, but in summary, it is not a waste of time. However, if you want to use it as a tool book to learn “reading skills” as your first book, I think it may be difficult for you to understand what the book is talking about, because just “viewpoints” and “principles” are enough to confuse you. Fortunately, 懶大 (Lazy Da) I have some reading habits in the past, so I can roughly understand what this book wants to express. I will not look for other people’s book reviews. In summary, look at the book upside down! Constantly doubt the content of the book and establish reverse thinking and critical logic. Organize and share it with the people around you through thematic reading. That will constantly form your own knowledge.
