Do 00929 and 00918 Overlap? Only 24% of Holdings, Yet They Fall Together | 12 Shared Stocks Compared
00929 and 00918 share only 2 of their top 10 holdings (ASUS and Wistron). Across …
Data as of: holdings for 2026-10-27. 00878 from Cathay SITE’s official weight data, cross-checked with ETF Info and MoneyDJ; 00919 from Capital Investment Trust’s portfolio page. Holdings change daily; check the issuers’ websites before trading.
This short had 100,000 Facebook plays. 00878 plus 00919 is a very common combination, and the idea is intuitive: stagger the distributions and money comes in more often.
The conclusion in three sentences:
Where I stand: I don’t own 00878 or 00919. My core holdings are 0050, the S&P 500 and QQQ. I’m laying out the two ETFs’ holdings as an outsider.
Because their distribution months don’t overlap:
| 00878 | 00919 | |
|---|---|---|
| Frequency | Quarterly | Quarterly |
| Usual ex-dividend months | Feb, May, Aug, Nov | Mar, Jun, Sep, Dec |
Together, money comes in 8 months a year. Wanting staggered payouts is a perfectly reasonable goal.
Looking only at the overlap between each ETF’s own top 10, these 8 appear in both:
| Stock | 00878 weight | 00919 weight |
|---|---|---|
| CTBC Financial | 10.36% | 10.99% |
| Quanta | 8.79% | 10.02% |
| Cathay Financial | 6.46% | 12.51% |
| ASUS | 5.70% | 5.86% |
| Evergreen | 4.40% | 4.28% |
| Taishin Shin Kong Financial | 3.81% | 8.44% |
| Realtek | 3.29% | 3.01% |
| Fubon Financial | 3.23% | 15.53% |
| Total | 46.04% | 70.64% |
Two observations:
Assume you hold only these two, NT$50,000 each (ignoring premiums/discounts, trading costs and later changes):
In other words, nearly 60% of your NT$100,000 sits in the same 8 companies.
This is “the combined exposure of both positions to these 8 companies,” not the overall overlap of the two ETFs. Shared holdings outside the top 10 aren’t counted, so actual overlap can only be higher, not lower.
For comparison: in the 00929 plus 00918 pair I analyzed, only 2 of the top 10 overlap, with about 24% overall weight overlap. 00878 plus 00919 overlaps much more.
Both ETFs are affected. Of course weights differ, so they won’t move identically — for example, when financials pull back, 00919 usually takes a bigger hit than 00878.
But the point is: you think you’re diversifying with two ETFs, but most of the money is on the same group of companies.
Buying both isn’t a problem. Some people simply want staggered payouts; that’s a legitimate cash-flow need.
Just remember: staggered distribution dates don’t mean staggered risk.
To check whether you’ve bought too much overlap:
Getting paid every month is fine — just don’t count it as diversification.
